Trees Walking

In Mark chapter 8, verses 22 through 25, Jesus heals a man who was born blind. Imagine never having seen anything- not a human face- not even knowing what a tree looked like except for having been told.

I was listening to this passage being prayed by Mary Demuth on her podcast recently when she pointed out that Jesus made sure the healing of the blind man was complete. Jesus asked the man if he saw anything the first time Jesus touched the man’s eyes. The man said, “I see people; they look like trees walking around.” (v. 24) Jesus touched His eyes again and made him able to see clearly.

Jesus cares about the needs of the whole person. He wants us to come to Him for healing. He heard the blind man’s cry for healing and would not turn Him away, even though healing him on the Sabbath put Jesus at risk. As John writes in I John 5:14, “this is the confidence that we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.”

It’s such a comfort to know that He still cares about each one of our needs, and is interested in our healing. Sometimes the process is painful and it may not come all at once, but He is with us. And he has made a way through His cross.
